Issuance and Renewal of Uganda Passports

  1. Applicants must carefully read the instructions and also the bottom of the reverse page, before filling in the application forms! Please use the CURRENT forms that are provided at this website.

  2. Applicants for Passports/Travel Documents must be citizens of Uganda.

  3. All application forms must be completed. Uncompleted application forms will not be processed.

  4. Applicants are advised to verify and ensure that all requirements have been fulfilled. This will facilitate the expeditious processing of applications.

  5. Applications by post must be accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed USPS Express Overnight envelope only For Ugandans outside the US, please enclose a pre-paid FEDEX or DHL return envelope to enable the Embassy mail back your passport.

  6. Applicants are requested to send the exact money for all fees paid.

  7. Applicants may be requested for additional supporting documentation, in addition to the above

  8. Passports are processed on first come first served basis.

  9. For purposes of easing contact with you, please include your day-time telephone number on the residential address bar of your application form.

*Please note that if you withdraw your application for whatever reason, the fee is not refundable*

The passport office is open Monday - Friday from 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM and reopens at 2:00PM to 3:00pm

* On receiving your renewed passport you are encouraged to store separately and safely a record of your passport number, date of issue and Immigration file number which begins with the initial INT/---- and can be found on page 45 of your passport book. Immigration file numbers are only issued by Immigration Department in Kampala*

 

Requirements for Renewal of Passports

  1. Completed Form A

  2. Two (2) passport size photos- must be bright, show all facial features and both ears. The photographs should have white background.

  3. Submit the old expired passport to be renewed

  4. $90.00 non refundable Postal Money Order payable to Uganda Embassy

** Processing time is 14 working days and please note that passports can still be renewed six(6) months before they expire.**

 

Requirements for replacement of a Lost Passport

  1. Applicants should provide passport numbers of previously held passport or facts about previous passport and when it was issued or file number.

  2. Police report

  3. Sworn affidavit Form.

  4. Declaration form for Ugandans living abroad.

  5. Citizen Verification Form

  6. Completed Form A and explanation of loss of passport

  7. Completed Questionnaire

  8. Two(2) clear passport size photographs.

  9. $180.00 non refundable Postal Money Order payable to Uganda Embassy

Note: Passports reported lost will be declared null and void. Relevant authorities in Uganda and all countries abroad including the United States will be informed accordingly.

** Processing time is 30 working days and please note that passports can still be renewed six(6) months before they expire.

 

Passport For Children Requirements

  1. Completed Form A

  2. Two(2) recent passport size photos- must be bright , show all facial features and both ears. The photographs should have white background.

  3. Original Ugandan passport in which the applicant is endorsed (if applicable) or original Ugandan passport belonging to one of the parents.

  4. Original birth certificate if child was born outside Uganda.

  5. In the case of a minor (below 18 years) please submit a letter of request signed by both parents that appear on the birth certificate. In case one of the parents is deceased, proof of this fact should be attached.

  6. $90.00 non refundable Postal Money Order payable to Uganda Embassy.

Change of Holders particulars on passports requirements

  1. Formal (written) request for changes to be made.

  2. One(1)recent passport size photo- must be bright , show all facial features and both ears. The photograph should have white background.

  3. A copy of applicant's Identification Card e.g. Drivers License, Residence Card or Work Place ID.

  4. Changes of Surname (Last name) will require a complete replacement of the passport, in which case the requirements for renewal of passport will apply.

  5. All other changes will be entered on the observation page of the passport and the fee will be US $50 payable by money order to the Embassy of Uganda.

Note: All requests for changes of holder’s particulars must be accompanied by original supporting documents. Applications for change of name, as a result of marriage will be processed at the Mission on presentation of an original Marriage Certificate. Changes of names as a result of other circumstances will have to be gazetted in the Uganda Gazette. The Deed Poll should be published in at least one of the Ugandan newspapers. Original copies of the Deed Poll, the Gazette and the newspaper containing the change of name must be submitted to the Mission and will be retained for the record.

Visas

General information (important)

American nationals holding USA passports need an entry visa for Uganda.
Naturalized American citizens of Uganda descent need an entry visa for Uganda.
Nationals of the countries listed below are exempted from visa requirements for travel to Uganda. They do, however, need to have a current passport issued by their respective countries.

Members of COMESA: Angola, Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Kenya, Malawi Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Others exempted are: Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Jamaica, Lesotho, Malta, Sierra Leone, Singapore Solomon Islands St Vincent & the Grenadines, Tonga, Vanuatu, Italy (Only diplomatic passport holders) and Cyprus.

 Visa Requirements:

  1. One dully filled Application form by each applicant,

  2. Every section of the application form must be completed. Incomplete forms will not be processed.
  3. 2 passport size photographs
  4. Must submit original Passport valid past the date of your expected departure from Uganda.
  5. Correct visa fee, letter of invitation/introduction, if traveling on business.
  6. Applicants may be requested to submit additional supporting documentation.
  7. An international Inoculation Certificate against yellow fever.
  8. A prepaid self-addressed USPS Express Overnight return envelope only must be included with applications sent by mail.

N.B. You are advised to ensure that your passport has a validity of at least six months from the date of your intended travel. Processing time for a visa is 5 working days.

 Visa fees and other details

a) US$ 50 for single entry: Valid for three months from the date of arrival.

b) US$ 100 for multiple entries: Valid for six months from the date of arrival.

c) An expedited service fee of $30 (cash/money order) for walk-ins will be accepted.

Visa fees must be paid by money order payable to UGANDA EMBASSY, on submission of visa application. Personal Checks are not accepted. Please note that the visa fee is non-refundable.

NB: Failure to complete the application form fully may result in the issuance of a visa being delayed or refused. The visa enables the holder to proceed to a port of entry where he/she must comply with the laws and regulations governing the admission of persons to the Republic of Uganda.

Regulations governing importation of Dogs and Cats into Uganda

  1. Movement Permit
An official and authentic “Movement Permit” should be obtained from the veterinary authority of the area of origin.
  1. Certificates
  1. A bill of health certifying that the pet is free from disease. It should be issued by a registered veterinary surgeon or official and should be properly signed and stamped within ten days of shipment.
  2. A certificate or letter from the local veterinary authorities indicating that the area of origin of the pet is free from rabies.
  1. Vaccinations
  1. Dogs require vaccination against distemper, hepatitis, Leptospirosos, Parvo-virus and rabies. It should have been done not less than 30 days prior to arrival at any point of entry into Uganda.
  2. Cats require vaccinations against Feline Entritis and rabies. It should have been done not less than 30 days prior to arrival at any point of entry into Uganda.
  1. Transportation
  1. While in transit, Dogs and Cats must not come into contact with other animals. To ensure this, each pet should be appropriately crated.

Certification of documents for transportation of remains of deceased persons to Uganda.

  1. Certification is done free of charge. Processing time is 2 working days.
  1. The following original documents are required for certification:
  1. A Signed letter of request for certification from a responsible person e.g. A relative, an employer etc
  2. The Passport of the deceased.
  3. A Death certificate.
  4. A Certificate of Embalmment.
  5. A Burial permit from the local authority where the deceased person resided.
  6. A certificate of no contagious diseases.
  1. The transporting airline will advise the applicant on an appropriate casket.
  2. Mailed documents should be accompanied by a prepaid self addressed return envelope.

Requirements for obtaining a Letter of No Objection to J1 visa Waiver

  1. Copy of the main page of your Ugandan passport.
  2. A letter to the Embassy signed by the applicant.
  3. Copy of a letter of no objection from the course sponsor.
  4. Copy of the Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019)
  5. Copy of the submitted J1 Visa waiver recommendation Application (DS-3035)
  6. Copy of the confirmation print out for the submitted waiver application.

Adoption of Ugandan Children

US citizens are advised to visit the website site of the US Department of State and in particular, the link to Intercountry Adoption.

In addition, you may wish to get in touch with a local attorney in Uganda who should be able to assist you through the process.

Requirements for Registration of a completed Adoption with the Embassy

1. A Copy of the court judgment granting the adoption.
2. A Copy of the adoptive parent's photo IDs.
3. A Current photo of the child clearly showing facial features.
4. The Full address in the US where the child will reside.

Requirements for a letter of recommendation for NGOs

  1. A Certificate of Authenticity obtained from the US Department of State. (Check www.state.gov/m/a/auth for details on how to obtain the certificate)

  4. A money order of US $ 50 payable to Uganda Embassy
  5. A prepaid self addressed return envelope.
